Zen groups and schools trace a line of teachers back into the past. Zen practice began with the historical Buddha in India, and developed over several centuries into Chinese Ch’an, Japanese Zen, and Korean Soen. The founding teacher of the Golden Wind tradition was the Korean Zen Master Seung Sahn, who came to the United States in the 1970s and began teaching in New England.
